South Texas AAU Qualifier Recap
The 2003 edition of the Kingwood classic is here. Last year the host Houston Hoops brought home the title with strong performances from Ndudi Ebi, Tack Minor, and Daniel Gibson. Gibson is back but he is questionable with a broken wrist. Boo Williams champion Riverside Church Hawks (won on forfeit) will be here as will Boo runners-up the St.Louis Eagles. Prep Stars #1 AAU team in the country the D.C. Blue Devils will be present as well. We look for Team Texas Elite to challenge for the title, a darkhorse title pick from us is Nike Team Florida.
We'll pick the winner of each pool:
Pool A: Illinois Warriors
Pool B: Team Texas Elite- Jason Horton, LaMarcus Aldridge & company too much, they're a title contender.
Pool C: Southern California All Stars- Aaron Afflalo and David Burgess lead Prep Stars' #8 team in the nation
Pool D: Riverside Church- A.J. Price (Boo Williams MVP) leads the Church, they also feature 6-9 2006 Derrick Caracter
Pool E: St. Louis Eagles- BF Kalen Grimes is a top 25 talent in 2004, Eagles are tough.
Pool F: Portland Legends- in what looks to be one of the weaker pools.
Pool G: Georgia Elite- Mohamed Tangara leads a talented bunch.
Pool H: Florida Hoopsters- close call but last year's Adidas Big Time runner up's beat Kentucky behind guard B.J. Johnson (2004 Orlando, FL Edgewater)
Pool I: Westside All-Stars- Dion Dowell & company get by barely over Albany who features 2005 PG Tiki Mayben a wizard with the rock and BF Dayshaun Wright will dunk on you.
Pool J: Arkansas Wings- Wings not as strong as last year but take a weak pool.
Pool K: Houston Hoops- if D-Gib is playing this is easy, without him they still win, don't be shocked if Southpoint finishes second they have talent.
Pool L: D.C. Blue Devils- These guys are loaded at least 10 deep, but it's hard to keep everyone happy. G Isaiah Swann is a big player as is BF Brian Johnson.
Pool M: Fox Valley Skillz- not the strongest pool Fox Valley could struggle against Indiana
Pool N: Belmont Shore/ H-Squad- Duke commit G DeMarcus Nelson leads the H-Squad
Pool O: Tennessee Travelers- Corey Brewer 6-7 WF is a big time player.
Pool P: Georgia Stars- Channing Toney leads a bunch who's best player is on the 16-u circuit.
Pool Q: California Team Select- No D.J. Strawberry or Trevor Ariza but Cali wins a weak pool.
Pool R: Houston Select: Another local squad goes to the championship round.
Pool S: Tossup Louisiana Panthers or New Jersey all-stars
Pool T: Arizona Stars Team Bibby
Pool U: Tossup Louisiana Select or Jersey Cyclones
Pool V: YOMCA Team Memphis- Andre Allen PG is very talented for Memphis
Pool W: Honestly any of these could win.
Pool X: Atlanta Prep Stars- Toney Douglas an Auburn commit leads Atlanta
Pool Y: Spiece Top Prospects- Good team ball gets Spiece by Copper State
Pool Z: Houston Superstars 3 Stripes- America meet Marshall Brown 6-6 WF Austin, TX LBJ worth the price of admission
Pool AA: Logic would say NY Gauchos but beware Florida Prep Stars boasts 6-6 WF Derrick Simmons Lake Wales, FL this matchup will be a battle.
Pool BB: Dallas Mustangs- We heard this was the Mustangs 16's with Eaton, Woodfox and Jackson if it's not disregard this pick.
Pool CC: South Carolina Ravens- Rasean Dickey and Zam Frederick lead the Ravens.

Pool EE: Ft. Sooy No Limit- Shaun Livingston leads a loaded bunch
Pool FF: Sports Academy- looking to advance again in h-town
Pool GG: either the Atlanta All Stars or Rise and Shine
Pool HH: Ft. Worth Lions disciplined ball wins out
Pool II: DTA Wisconsin quick squad led by PG Dupree Fletcher
Pool JJ: tough call ... we'll go with Breakdown
Pool KK: Smyrna Stars
Pool LL: NJ wildcats
