AAU 16 & Under National Tournament Preview

A little look to get ready for the AAU 16&under nationals which will get started on Monday in Bloomington, Indiana. The Dallas Mustangs are two time defending national champions. Here's a little preview of the event, starting with the Texas squads and their top players.

Dallas Mustangs Blue- The two time defending national champs will bring a very talented squad to Bloomington. The defending champs have to be the favorites coming into this event. Of course, anything can happen in a single elimination bracket after pool play. Here's some of the players to watch for the Mustangs.

Houston Hoops- The Hoops have a talented squad as well, with solid guard play and a big time forward in Fendi Onobun. These guys have a chance to get very far in this tourney. A legit contender. Here's some Hoops to watch:

ATX Boys 16's (Austin)- The South Texas AAU Champion comes in fresh off of a strong showing playing up in several events. An undersized squad makes up for it with quickness, heart and a talented creator in C.J. Jerrells. This squad sure has a chance to make some noise. Some players to watch for from the ATX:

Dallas Mustangs White- Don't get the idea that this is any sort of second squad. These guys can play big time. Solid all around the Mustangs are paced by their backcourt and high scoring wing Terrel Harris. They have a great shot at making noise and advancing as well. Here's some players to watch:

San Antonio Spurs- The third place finisher from the South Texas region. The Spurs are paced by San Antonio Sam Houston forwards Terrell Nicholas and Dannie Woods. A solid club that has played some tough teams this spring.

Bayseas- The runners-up in the South Texas region. This Austin based squad is led by a trio of young guards in Tony Braggs, Mike Spencer and Chris Onukaife. This squad plays solid defense and can get hot from long range.

National Teams to watch-

Georgia Stars- Talented team led by most people's top player in the class of 2005 G Louis Williams. The ultra-talented Williams sports a deadly jumper and a 42 inch vertical leap. He teams with guards Mike Mercer and Sharaud Curry to make the Stars a team to watch. The real story though, is the 6-1 Williams who as a sophomore averaged nearly 30 points per game. The Stars are definitely a contender.

All Ohio Red- Another strong club, powered by forward's Ben Raymond and Jamelle Cornley.

Jacksonville "Jax" Lee Bulls- The Lee Bulls, historically a solid program out of Jacksonville, Florida come in this year with a strong team led by 2005 WG Derwin Kitchens. Kitchens a 6-4 athletic wing was the MVP of the Florida 5A State Tournament as he led Raines High to the state title. 7-0 freshman Jason Bennett could also run with his old squd the Bulls, though so far this summer he's been with the Tallahassee Wildcats 17's.

Indiana Red- Strong team from Indiana is led by 6-9 Josh McRoberts, forwards Nick Rogers and Jordan Brewer and solid guard Brandon McPherson.

Others contenders and teams with talented individual players

North Carolina Gaters- Paced by Wake Forest commit Kevin Swinton and guard Prince Bowden

Meanstreets

Spiece Select-

Old Gold Dream Team-

MidState Ballers- Paced by twins Reggie (WG) and Richard (PG) Delk, cousins of former UK star and Boston Celtic Tony Delk.
