Tops In Texas Recap

The 2003 Central Texas Shootout is completed. A long two days of hoops in which we could see two games at once at Austin's LBJ High School. The tournament was hosted by the ATX Boys program. We saw some fine performances and some moved well into our rankings. The Austin Dawgs won the title, 47-33 over the ATX 16's, behind strong inside play of 2004's 6-7 BF Robbie Cowgill of Round Rock Westwood who had 15 points and 8 rebounds. He was aided by 2004 F Chuck Foster of Austin LBJ who had 10 points and 4 rebounds. 2005 #16 A.J. Abrams of Round Rock McNeil struggled for the Dawgs going 2-9 from the field and 4-6 from the line en route to 8 points he added 2 assists. ATX an all 16 year old squad was led by 2005 combo guard Curtis "C.J" Jerrells of Del Valle. Jerrells was in the paint all night going 3-7 from the field, 5-5 at the line en route to 11 points. Jerrells added 6 rebounds, 4 assists and a blocked shot to his all around line. Unselfish almost to a fault, we felt Jerrells scored at will, getting into the paint anytime he wished. Jerrells was excellent on defense in the contest, and if he had gotten 15 shots I think ATX wins this game. 2005 top 50 WF Malcolm Johnson of Austin Anderson had 8 points for ATX, while G Torin Moore (St. Stephens) added 9.

The Semi's- The Austin Dawgs downed the San Antonio Rohawks in the semi's in a technical fest against the Rohawks. Later the game would be sealed when down 15 with close to 10 minutes left the Rohawks coach was tossed after picking up two t's. Did they have a gripe? The foul count was close to 30-12 with the Rohawks with the 30. The Rohawks made 2 foul shots, the Dawgs made 12???? The Dawgs were led in the game by 2004 G Matt Braeuer of Belton who had 26 points including 6 three's.. 2005 PG AJ Abrams struggled against the tight d of Dominique RIchardson going 2-10 from the field and 2-3 at the stripe for 6 points, he added 3 boards and 2 assists.
