Colleyville Pre-Season Shootout Recap

We'll get started with the last game of a great day of hoops. Here's our recap, followed by our dunk of the day.

---Fort Worth Dunbar 80   Dallas Seagoville 56---

In a match-up of two of the top 4A teams in the state and TRB's #'s 1 and 2 players in the class of 2004, the Flying Wildcats took control in the second half to handle the Dragons. Seagoville 2004 BF LaMarcus Aldridge (pictured below) picked up 4 fouls in a short span late in the first half, forcing him to sit for the first 8 minutes of the second half. Tonight however, the story was 2004 Ft. Worth Dunbar F Jeremis Smith (pictured below). Smith came out of the gates on the attack getting to the rim at will and nailing 15-18 foot jumpers. Jeremis had 9 points in the first 5 minutes of action. Smith put on an aerial show, throwing down some nasty slams on the night. His dunks included an alley-oop which he caught directly under the goal and cupped back-handed for the slam; a lob that he caught and threw down a nice two handed reverse, and a two handed flush off of a Naterian Roberts lob to end the game. Jeremis finished with 30 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks; connecting on at least 4 15-18 foot pull up jumpers. Seagoville, who trailed by only 3 points at the half, got an outstanding effort from 2005 WG Ryan Boyd (pictured below with teammates Don Sloan and Derrick Roland). Boyd's 25 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and a block kept the Dragons close all night. The 6-6 Boyd scored in a variety of ways including pull up jumpers, slick drives to the hole and deep trey balls. Boyd finished several tough j's off of spin moves, and definitely showed he's one of the top players in the class of 2005. Seagoville's 2006 WG Donald Sloan  had a good night as well, with 9 first half points en route to 13 for the game to go with 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Sloan's shooting and penetration followed by finishes in the paint or assists was huge in keeping the Dragons close. 2004 BF LaMarcus Aldridge (pictured below) who was in foul trouble from late in the first half on, eventually fouled out with 12 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 assists. The Dunbar Wildcats received great showings from 2004 PG Dominique Williams (14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists); 2004 F Jarred Watley (12 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block) and 2005 PG Naterian Roberts (10 points, 5 assists). Dunbar G Jeff Muriel sat out the game with a minor back injury while Dallas Seagoville was without 2006 star WG Derrick Roland who was injured in the first game of the shootout, we wish Derrick a speedy recovery and hope to see him back balling A.S.A.P.

Reese made 6 threes on the day. 2004 BF Raymond Hicks (pictured below) played great as well scoring 25 points, grabbing 15 rebounds, blocking 5 shots and handing out 4 assists. Both Hicks and Reese are definitely division-1 prospects and both look to hop way up our 2004 list in a hurry. Hicks is a powerfully built 6-7 forward who's extremely athletic and strong in the paint. Reese is a long, slender 6-2 WG/PG who has a beautiful three point stroke and can really pass the ball as well. Their opponent, Lewisville got a great showing of their own from 2005 G Booker Woodfox. Booker went for 30 points (4 threes), 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

-----Dunk of the Day---

With much love to Longview's Raymond Hicks, Fort Worth Eastern Hills' Robert Lee, and Woodrow's Grady Green all of whom had dunks worthy of mention,  we have to go with Dunbar's Jeremis Smith on this one. Smith who had some amazing, crowd pleasing throw downs during the final game, did some fine work in warm-ups as well. As the Dunbar squad pleased the entire gym with 360's (Dominique Williams) and sick windmills, Jeremis took his elbow dunk a little further. With most players getting big running starts to finish high, Smith simply came in to the block, caught a pass and rose straight up off a vertical leap, doing the elbow dunk Vince Carter made famous, except Smith pulled it off on a vertical leap.
